About me

I’m a software engineer who likes understanding problems and building things that make a difference.

Software

I'm currently a software engineer at Autodesk, working on software for the construction industry. Before that, I spent several years at Experian, developing and taking ownership of services where reliability and security really mattered.

I’m more interested in solving a real problem than writing code for its own sake. I like understanding how people actually use software, untangling complicated systems and finding practical ways to make things work better.

Some of my personal projects grew out of things I encountered outside work — particularly around paddling and making environmental data more useful. You can find a few of them on the homepage, or browse my work on GitHub.

Paddling

I’m a kayaker first and foremost: whitewater, polo and plenty in between. I’ve been involved in the paddling community for years, not just on the water but volunteering, organising events and helping out behind the scenes.

Photography & media

Before moving into software engineering full-time, I was General Manager at DGTL Concepts, a small media production company. It was wonderfully varied work: ski festivals and other major events, drone operations, production crews and plenty of technical and logistical problems to solve along the way.

As well as the creative side, I worked on the technology and systems behind the business. I think that combination of making things and figuring out how to make them work has stayed with me.

These days I mostly pick up a camera for photography and video around paddling. You can see some of that on Instagram.

This site is a home for the things I’m building, learning and occasionally overthinking.
